Firstly, we wish to thank the first committee for their hard work in getting the GBCSL project off the ground. Thanks also for the information and support they have provided during the handover period with the new team.

The team are reviewing all of the information provided and we look forward to giving a full update on the project and our way forward in the upcoming weeks.

I am delighted to introduce the new team to you!

MEET THE TEAM

Dee Denton – Chairperson

I live in the village with my husband and our two young children Isabelle and Emily.

You can often find me enjoying the playground with our two little girls or out running, albeit very slowly around the village!

I’ve worked for ALDI for 11 as a Store Operations Director. I’m looking forward to using my knowledge of food retail to help the team bring a successful shop to the village.

Chris Youngs – Deputy Chairperson

I have lived in Barrow for 46 years. My two boys Tim and Gilbert were 4 and 2½ years old when we arrived in 1974 so their childhood was spent here (lucky boys).

I served on the Parish Council for many years. I am still on the footpath committee and I have been involved in many other activities in the village over the years.

We have an opportunity to secure a shop in Barrow and so I have joined the committee to try to help to make this a reality. I am very keen to see this come to a successful conclusion.

Brian Cavenett – Treasurer

I married Ann in the Barrow Church in 1966 and so I am old enough to remember Mill Lane awash with cow muck! We came back to Barrow from Edinburgh when I retired from the Heriot-Watt Physics Department in 2002. There, I had funded and managed a large research group training PhD students and Post-doc Researchers.

I have served on the Parish Council and was Chairman of the Village Hall Committee when the Community Shop project started and the new shop was going to use the building behind the VH.  I served briefly on the Shop Committee with the brief to help raise funds.

I have been a strong supporter of past village shops and look forward to working with the Parish Council to open the new shop as soon as possible.

Kellie Snowden – Secretary

I live here with my baby boy, Harrison, and our two dogs. I can often be seen doing a vaguely circular route around the village with the pram.

I currently work in a secondary school as Head of German and teach French and Spanish too.

I’ve lived in the village for just over four years now and never intend to leave, so I’m really looking forward to getting a shop back open here which will service the community and feed back into it.

Ferdi D’Souza – Committee Member

My wife Kate is from around the area and lived in Bramhall when we met.

I was born and brought up in India. When we got married Kate moved to India and we lived there until 2005. We then moved back to Great Barrow and have lived here ever since.

Our children Jemima and Gabriel initially studied in the Village primary school. We are very happy we landed in such a beautiful place with such a wonderful community. I am a management consultant and work in the area of leadership development and I also am an Executive Coach.

Kate and I are very committed to us having a village shop and a community centre.
