Barrow Village Bowling Club

BARROW VILLAGE BOWLING CLUB

Barrow Village Bowling Club has operated on a Licence from the Barrow Parish Playing Fields Foundation since 1988 and is totally self-funded. The Green is located beside the Pavilion on Barrow Playing Field and all maintenance and improvements on and around the Green are carried out by the membership.

The Club plays in 4 local leagues, playing Home and Away matches against teams across Cheshire and North Wales:

  • Chester & District League play on Monday evenings
  • Norley Afternoon League (2 teams) play on Tuesday afternoons
  • Mid-Cheshire Ladies play on Tuesday evenings
  • Norley Evening League play on Wednesday evenings

The Green opens around mid-March and closes mid-October, dependant on weather and maintenance requirements.

MEMBERSHIP DETAILS

The Club’s annual membership fee is £30 (£15 for Juniors under 18 years of age) due when the season starts in the Spring. Once you are a member, you can use the green at any time during the season provided there is not a competition being played.

As a member of the Club, you can take guests to play but a small donation of £2 would be appreciated on each visit.

The club has spare bowls and jacks which we are happy to loan out to help get youstarted. Most members eventually obtain their own bowls.

Informal group practice sessions operate throughout the week although these are not organised on a regular basis.

Members do not have to play in League matches, although most do.If you do want to play in the league games you will need Cheshire County and British Crown Green Bowling Registration. There is a one-off charge of around £15 for such registration. If not already registered, the Club will reduce your initial membership fee by £15 in your first year. There is a fee of £2 to be paid to the club for each league game you play which is collected on the day.

Although most members play in League matches, there is no compulsion to do so. If this is the case, then there is no need for Registration.
