The Jones’s launch a new rose to say a Heartfelt thanks to their NHS Heroes,
Writes Fi Miles
Tarvin rose business, C & K Jones based at Golden
Fields Nursery, on Barrow Lane, have had a busy
lockdown, dealing with a 7 week drought and then
those high winds and torrential rain which played
havoc with the rose crop and the potted roses.
Keith and Rachel have been shielding for coronavirus;
Rachael, because she suffers from asthma and Keith,
because in January, he needed to have an aortic heart
valve fitted at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH).
Keith and Rachael were really impressed by the treatment and care he received at LHCH that they felt they had to find some way they could say a heartfelt thank you to their NHS heroes. “I was so impressed by the team of surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff; I felt completely at ease.” Says Keith, “It was all so professional.”.
It was a very difficult time for Rachael. Not only would anyone be worried when her husband is undergoing heart surgery, especially with a history of heart disease in the family, but doing all the jobs Keith normally does, as well as her own huge list, while Keith was in hospital and during his 6
week convalescence was a big ask …caring for and lifting the bare root roses from the field, and making sure all the animals were fed and safe. Keith says, “Rachael knew that I was in the best hands at LHCH. She suggested that we name a new rose to say thank you to our NHS heroes.”
Rachael and Keith have continued to sell roses by mail order
throughout the lockdown and they allow local customers to
telephone or email orders to collect from the nursery by
appointment, but they ask for card payments only if possible.
