Five Days in Provence

Sixteen members of Barrow and Littleton Twinning Association have just
returned from visiting their friends in Aubignan in Provence. The weather
was superb as we landed in Marseille and we enjoyed five days of
French sunshine and the magnificent hospitality of our French hosts.
On the evening of the first day we had a welcome reception where we
were invited to meet the Mayor and enjoyed a supper of cheese, pate
and wine.
On our second day we went to the local vineyard, Pepinieres Viticoles,
where we learned about the way that vines are produced and then
enjoyed tasting of a variety of their wines. After lunch we visited
Beaumes de Venises and saw the ancient chapel, Notre-Dame
d’Aubune.
The third day took us to the Camargue, the largest wetland of France.
Here we visited the ancient dark bull farm and to see the famous white
horses of the Camargue. After lunch on the farm we went to Aigues
Mortes and toured the salt works which covers an area of 24,000 acres
and is the most important French centre of sea salt production.
On the fourth day we went to Carpentras to see the large interesting
market and in the afternoon we were entertained by children from the
local school in Aubignan. In the evening a party for 70 people was held
in a beautiful garden where we enjoyed paella and wine.
On the final day, we had a picnic with members of Aubignan Twinning
Association and we then bid them Au Revoir.
A good time was had by all.
